Information for Parents

If you are the parent of a seventh grade girl or a rising seventh-grader and want to involve your daughter with YWLP, please contact your daughter’s counselor. YWLP meets once a week from the end of the school day until 5:00. Most of our programs begin in late September and last until April, but we often have a one-semester program that begins in January. We welcome girls from a wide-range of socio-economic, racial, and academic backgrounds. YWLP is a program that we hope your daughter will look forward to attending after school. We encourage all of our members–middle school and college–to attend every meeting in order to get the most out of the experience.

Your daughter’s safety is our number one priority.  Our members undergo background checks before they start mentoring and are made aware of all school rules. In accordance with Spotsylvania County Schools policy, we do not meet with the young women outside of their schools. Although we encourage strong bonds of friendship and trust between the mentors and young women, we always inform counselors if a young woman is in danger of hurting herself or others.

Information about our curriculum can be found under the About YWLP page. If you have specific questions about the curriculum, please contact us.
